Economic Impact Study

What We Did

The MacArthur Business Alliance, in partnership with the Town of Islip IDA and the Suffolk County Economic Development Council (EDC), commissioned a comprehensive Economic Impact Study of the MacArthur Business District and the surrounding 5-mile MacArthur Hub area.

We engaged national economic development consulting firm Camoin Associates to conduct the analysis, evaluate district baseline metrics, and engage key business and community stakeholders.

Why We Did It

To advance our mission of fostering collaboration and driving regional development. This study quantified our area’s economic footprint – measuring job creation, wage impact, and total revenue generation – while establishing strategic priorities for sewer expansion, transit connectivity, catalytic site development, and district master planning.

Ultimately, the study confirmed that the MacArthur Business District is one of Long Island's premier economic anchors, supporting over 80,000 regional jobs and driving nearly 6% of Long Island’s total economy.

Board decision to move forward in pursuing an Economic Impact Study & associated necessary funding. Creation of a committee to begin the planning process, create project scope, & ultimately the consultant vetting process.

Scope, Interviews & Findings

2025

Andrew Saggese, Catherine Fee, & Jeff Stern as part of the original focussed EIS committee drafted the scope, conducted interviews, and delivered findings & recommendations to the Board of Directors. Camoin Associates ultimately officially selected to be the consultant for MBA’s Economic Impact Study project.

On September 25th we were overwhelmed with support from our Members & others in the community at our Launch Event! Held at TRITEC's beautiful Station Yards office, we were honored by appearances from NY Congressman Nick LaLota, NY Assemblyman Doug Smith, Town of Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter, TOI Councilmen John Lorenzo & Mike McElwee, and more! Rachel Selsky, CEO of Camoin Associates spoke about her firm & the value they bring to projects just like this one, and our very own Catherine Fee spoke on behalf of the Economic Impact Study Committee & their hard work & diligence throughout this process.
